Panda 4.1 has landed

Last week Google released Panda 4.1, its’ latest algorithm change.

What do you need to know?

Panda 4.1 is an update of 4.0, which was released back in May ’14, and saw sites containing poor quality content dropping sharply down the rankings.

Sites affected included many article sites and directories that offered little or no unique content or value to the searcher. Also affected were some smaller sites containing backlinks to these large directory sites.

Google say they have identified more signals to help them identify this kind of poor quality content, so 4.1 sees those identifying factors being implemented into Google’s regular search algorithm.

What do we need to do?

Firstly, if you think you may have lost traffic since 4.0 or 4.1, you need to check that your site contains unique content that offers something useful to your audience. If you are already doing this, check your backlinks. This can be done using webmaster tools, where you can check through a list of external sites that link to your site, and begin the process of removing any that you think might be poor quality.

Secondly, listen to Google! They have said time and time again that content is key. Create interesting, engaging content that your audience want to read, and, according to Google, you will be rewarded in the SERPs.
